SHIS Bostäder is part of the City of Stockholm. According to SHIS's own website, the operation is the city's social housing resource. Its main task is to offer transitional housing for Stockholmers who, for social or financial reasons, have ended up outside the ordinary housing market. Those flats are applied for through the social services.

In addition, SHIS sometimes lets flats on short-term contracts to the general public. Those are the listings that appear with us. We have registered 227 listings since 7 March 2025. Almost all concern short-term contracts, and the flats are in Stockholm, including Södermalm, Farsta and Älvsjö.

Over the past year we saw 105 listings. All of them concerned one-room flats. The average area was 23 square metres, so these are small flats. The average rent was SEK 5,546 a month, and rents ranged between SEK 4,433 and SEK 6,876. All the flats were in buildings with a lift.

The short-term contracts are handled through Bostadsförmedlingen in Stockholm. About 73 per cent of the listings over the past year required queue time there. Anyone who wants to apply therefore needs to be registered in Bostadsförmedlingen's queue. A short-term contract does not give the right to stay on after the contract period has ended.
